NANS ISSUES 14days Warning to School Management and State Government -after meeting held on 2nd February, 2017 in ABIA State Polytechnic, Aba.

The President of NANS, Comrade Aruna  Kadiri led delegate from National and State Level to Abia State Polytechnic, Aba to discuss and find lasting solving to the 2months old Strike. Which started since December, 2016 till date.

The Meeting started properly with an Introduction of NANS Executive and Casmir Nwakanma from the host SUG PRESIDENT Comrade Chigbu Godswill to the School Management.

NANS PRESIDENT Comrade Aruna Kadiri stated clearly their mission, he requested to know reasons why the School was not on session and When the Strike  will be called off, Possibly proffering lasting solutions to ASPOLY Strike and what school management have done so far...

The Rector of Abia State Polytechnic, Aba , Professor Martin Ikechukwu Ifeanacho explained reasons why the School was shutdown in December, 2016 before the Christmas Break. According to him, it was aimed at ensuring there was no breakdown of Law & Order in the Institution.
It hunt him that Students are not on campus-
So far, The School Management had series of Meeting with various Unions (ASUP, ALUMNI) to ensure the Strike is suspended.

The 1week ASUP NATIONAL STRIKE have affected the ASUP ABIA STATE POLYTECHNIC, ABA CHAPTER from holding their Congress to discuss on when Strike Will be suspended.
Hopefully, by Next week after the ASUP MEETING, THE STRIKE MAYBE SUSPENDED he said.

On Issue of Strike in ABIA State Polytechnic, Aba, The Rector said, unpaid Salaries are like Monster that affect the Relationship between School Management & ASUP.

The Rector highlighted  3 major Factors behind ABIA STATE POLYTECHNIC, ABA on unpaid salaries.
1) RECESSION- The Resources available in the institution are currently Limited. The Economic Recession have also affected deeply the institution.
2)Over Staffing- The Past Administration was under pressure from Government & Governing Council to employ more staff into the institution without making provision for their salaries.
3) DELAYED SUBVENTION- Delay in receiving Subvention from the State Government was also one of the major factor affecting non-payment of Salaries.

The Rector, Prof. Martin Ikechukwu seek for Partnership between ABIA STATE POLYTECHNIC, ABA & ASPEA. According to him, ASPOLY have all it takes to Manufacture Equipment and Tanks Needed by the Agency.
He also suggested for Partnership between ASPOLY & ABIA STATE GOVERNMENT on Construction of  School Desk & Facilities used in all State Institution in Abia State.
According to him, It would help bring out the Institution from its current position.

The Deputy Rector, Appealed to the State Government to release more financial assistance through payment of Subvention to the institution. According to him, The Institution have no reason to be on Strike if Fund were made available.

The School Management also thank the State Government for their Assistance in paying out 2billion naira Loan that have held the institution to ransom. Abia State Polytechnic, Aba have received the highest interest from the State Government when compared to other institutions in the State.

The President of NANS Comrade Aruna Kadiri Insisted that they cannot leave without issuing ULTIMATUM to the State Government and School Management.
According to him, it is unfortunate that the Present State Government and School Management have inherited so much debt and problems. But notwithstanding, They have no option than to solve the inherited problems.

The NANS Union issued 14days ULTIMATUM to Resume School or face massive Protest in Abia State.
Finally, The SUG President Comrade Chigbu Godswill in his vote of thanks said that the Students are tired of the way the School embark on Strike in every Academic section which is having a negative impact on the students generally because the welfare of the students are not being considered while going on strike and as well that the Students are not supposed to suffer in the act perpetrated by other as the Students were been forced to pay there dues before the examinations. He also called on the State Government, the School Management and the various Staff Unions to act fast and listen to the voices of the most peaceful Students in the State to bring them back on Campus as time waits for no one.

Finally the SUG PRESIDENT that played the host thanked the NANS PRESIDENT & EXECUTIVE and Casmir Nwakanma for coming to the rescue of ABIA STATE POLYTECHNIC, ABA STUDENTS and Promised a Total Support to Ensure School Activities resumes as soon as possible
